Daniel Markham Brings Pop Rock & New Album to Knoxville April 14th

Daniel Markham is no stranger to genre bending, apparent through his solo career and experiences playing under various bands, from country to rock to metal, and will be performing at Barley's in Knoxville's Old City on April 14th at 8PM, with Claire Morales opening.

Through it all, like most musicians from the Texas Panhandle, the desertscapes and environments in West Texas shine through.

With his latest album, Just Like A Dream (produced by David Barbe (Drive-By Truckers, Son Volt, Deerhunter), Markham weaves the story of self discovery we all faced coming out the COVID-19 pandemic.

I think this record is about not really knowing where you fit in anymore. I think isolation and loss are big themes. I wrote these songs right as the world was waking up from COVID. So that all had a giant impact on what I was writing.

The album draws influence from power pop, 90s grunge & alternative rock, and classic rock, weaving together a sound that is at once nostalgic while remaining altogether new.

Along with those influences, the scenery and isolation of West Texas is apparent.

I was living in West Texas when I wrote the tunes. The song The Sky is a Fire was influenced by all of the beautiful sunsets I was seeing. The wind stirs up the dust, and it makes the sky look like a fire.

"My Second Favorite Song" brings home these themes through an unapologetic story of being alone and reflecting on life's changes brought through time and the pandemic.

Just Like A Dream marks his tenth full-length album, and also features Kris Killingsworth on drums and Kyle Harris on bass.

So, yeah, check out the album and don't miss the show at Barley's on 4/14 at 8PM!
